FAQ

FAQ#

  1. How much do the original ACCESS data, Crossref and OpenAlex datasets overlap?

The original data has more than 2100 DOIs (or DOI-like things), of which 2121 are in Crossref. OpenAlex contains metadata for 2097 of the Crossref DOIs, so they differ by 24 DOIs, representing a 98.9% overlap.

  2. If there were over 2100 papers in the original data, why were there only 2068 papers in the analysis?

Because there were some papers in the original data which had dates before 2022. Projects that had begun during the XSEDE program may have reported publications earlier than 2022 in support of more recent allocation requests submitted during the ACCESS program.

  3. Where do the Fields of Science come from?

Fields of Science are produced from OpenAlex topic taxonomy and represent fine and coarse grain topics. The FoS do not come from the associated ACCESS-allocated project that was given in the database. A paper can have more than one topic.
